ABOUT ME

I want to live my life like a free bird, but that’s not how I function completely. Where ever I go and whatever I feel, It makes me want to share that feeling or thought with the rest of the world. Media makes that possible for me. I’ll be forever grateful from the smallest to the largest elements of media that helps me make use of that part of me. You know that feeling when your hungry? The one in your stomach?  My heart functions the same way.
My heart feels hungry in the same way as you would on an empty stomach. That doesn’t go away till I don’t learn something new or if I don’t say what I want to say or share what I want to share with the rest of the world.
I want to live the rest of my life selflessly and free in the same way.
Im an 18 year old student from a small city of Islamabad in Pakistan and this is just the beginning.

Above.
These are some of the pictures I took as part of our preliminary work in media this year.

Below.
These pictures were taken by me or by the help of my camera stand in different cities and in different places around the world.
I usually prefer to not show my face or look at the camera when im taking pictures with my camera stand as they don’t capture the natural feeling of the place. These are some of the pictures I took and uploaded on my instagram. @rahimtarar

MY WORK IN MEDIA FROM LAST YEAR

REAL STORY. REAL ISSUE. REAL INTERVIEW

For years freedom of speech has been nothing but a fake and unreal concept specially for journalists around the world. Censorship is a real issue that exists in societies and in the media industries till today. I had read an article in the New York times that led me to dig deeper and go in depths of how and why these networks are controlled when we are told that we live in a free world. Just as anyone would do, I chose to begin my research and work out in finding the real truth from within my own country before I started tackling international issues. This is not a small issue and it is not a good beginning for any of us thinking of pursuing a career in Media when it is based on an utterly rigid system in some countries and controlled in others.

Working with a real life journalist

Working with Matiullah Jan was a self fulfilling and a positive experience. I got to learn a lot, not only about how the Media industry operates but how tough a journalists job is. He says that a journalist sees and gets to learn about the harsh realities of life and how they put everything on the line to bring out the truth. He also told me about the many turns in his life and his time in the Pakistani army, where he tried to follow his father’s footsteps. He told me about how he was kicked out for being at “outspoken person” and a person who likes to challenge authorities who function against basic morals of life.  I also asked him in a personal setting if it was worth losing his job, if exposing the powerful and setting out the harsh truth was worth having him suffer because of it and what he said in return was what really inspired me.
He said the agony and torment was worth every second and as tough as his job as a journalist may be, he wouldn’t have been able to live with himself by keeping “his people” in the dark. He taught me that life is about the tough times and decisions in life and it’s important to be strong enough and to “never break”, specially if im looking forward to a future in media. Every job is tough he said but when you talk about Media, you’re also in the public eye. He also praised my work and my questions that ended up with him sharing my work on his facebook page and amongst many of his journalistic friends. I was also later praised for “doing so much and coming up with so much at such a young age” by many of his journalists friends. Many of them later asked who I was and their commendation itself meant a lot. One of them I even met in person when I ran into Mr.Jan in a bookstore. As I met him, one of his friends gave me a pat on the back as he recognized me for my work. That itself was gave me a great sense of achievement.

WORK FROM THIS YEAR

Preliminary projects 1 and 2 made as class work.

Work done as group and an RAS Production. The first movie Anaya was done as prior work while Periphery was our final film. JiNN was our first project, which translates to “Ghost” in English. We did this as a class and you can read more about it under the page preliminary project. Bunk day was our second film and more information is available under the same page. These were both very important in terms of learning about making and shooting films before we jumped into certain groups and making our own films.

The process and work is all shown in the Preliminary project page. The pictures shown above however were made and designed by me using the skills we had learned last year on photoshop CC. The two movies you see above are both written by me, and directed with the help of my group partner Safee Khawaja while the task of editing was taken over by Ariyana. Other workload was also divided by all of us and we also came to many disagreements and had creative differences just like in any other group but we had learned to move past that and came to a consensus in order to bring out the best of our work as a team.

My group partners

My group partner Safee, also my close friend was really helpful during the production process since our preliminary work. He was very useful when it came to shooting and direction of many of our preliminary movies as well as the final project. His vision and ability to understand what I wanted out of the screenplay was what had our screenplay praised. None of this work would have been possible without him.

My Group partner Ariyana was quite resourceful. She helped in bringing everything together and managing the team and also proved to be quite the editor in all our preliminary films and a great production manager in the last film. Her approach and workload division , date sheets and spreadsheets was what had our final project finished on time and reshot if something had to be reshot. Her editing work in Anaya was what saved the film from becoming a disaster as we had not much time to shoot it and spend time on details.
